Laing O’Rourke Wins Big in Sydney

06 Feb, 17

Laing O’Rourke has won a share in the $11.5 billion Sydney Metro project to deliver the Sydney Yard Access Bridge.

Laing O’Rourke has been awarded the contract to deliver the Sydney Yard Access Bridge project. This package makes up the first early and enabling works of the New South Wales Government’s $11.5 billion Sydney Metro City and Southwest project.

The Sydney Yard Access Bridge is part of a bigger picture for the Sydney Metro project. The contract will see Laing O’Rourke responsible for the design and construction of the bridge for controlled heavy vehicles to access from Regent Street into the Sydney Yard at Central Station and help facilitate construction of the Sydney Metro works.

Laing O’Rourke’s Region Director Mark Dimmock announced he was excited to be given the opportunity to work on this important project.

Laing O’Rourke has a long and proud history of delivering major metropolitan rail projects around the world, including here in Sydney. Sydney Metro can rely on Laing O’Rourke to bring certainty and achieve outstanding outcomes throughout the delivery of this complex project.” Mr Dimmock said.

The contract was signed last week between Laing O’Rourke and Transport for NSW, making their role official. Laing O’Rourke will now commence work on the design phase of the project with construction kicking off early this year.

A little more info on how the Sydney Yard Access Bridge fits into the Sydney Metro project:

The Sydney Metro project is worth $11.5 billion and will deliver 31 new metro stations and more than 65km of metro rail for Australia’s biggest city – revolutionising the way Sydney travels. Construction will be carried out in 2 stages:

Stage 1: Sydney Metro Northwest – formerly the 36km North West Rail Link. This project is now under construction and will open in the first half of 2019. Tunnelling has finished and construction is progressing rapidly.

Stage 2: Sydney Metro City and Southwest – a new 30km metro line extending metro rail from the end of Sydney Metro Northwest at Chatswood under Sydney Harbour, through new CBD stations and south-west to Bankstown.

Construction of the entire project should wrap up in 2024 with the metro due to open to the public the same year.

iSeekplant has helped Laing O’Rourke source plant rates and quality suppliers for other tenders across Australia. We would like to congratulate the company on another big win!
