Government aiming to stimulate construction in the Top End

09 Aug, 16

THE Northern Territory government believes the construction of the new Department of Health (DoH) headquarters in Darwin’s CBD and Palmerston’s CBD will create a stimulus for the local construction industry.

The request for tenders will be called in October and according to Deputy Chief Minister Peter Styles, has the potential to support hundreds of construction workers and inject millions of dollars into the local economy.

“Three proponents have been shortlisted from the expression of interest (EoI) process, which called for suitably qualified and experienced developers or building owners to supply up to 12,000m2 of office accommodation for the DoH” Styles said.

The three proponents going to select tender process are Randazzo Properties, Palmerston Investments and the Halikos Group.

“Options under consideration include office accommodation located in the Darwin CBD and Palmerston CBD, with a view to having 6000m2 in each centre to spread the economic stimulus,” Styles said.

In addition to the core building requirements, the government said it would consider submissions that maximise the broader social and economic benefit to the local community.

“This will be achieved through a compatible commercial development which creates and sustains jobs and increases business attraction,” Styles said.
